# Delete or end a maintenance window

`DELETE https://api.pagerduty.com/maintenance_windows/{id}`

Delete an existing maintenance window if it's in the future, or end it if it's currently on-going. If the maintenance window has already ended it cannot be deleted.

A Maintenance Window is used to temporarily disable one or more Services for a set period of time.

Scoped OAuth requires: `services.write`

## Authorization

- **api_key** (apiKey) — `Authorization` header. The API Key with format `Token token=<API_KEY>`

## Response 204

The maintenance window was deleted successfully.

## Response 401

Caller did not supply credentials or did not provide the correct credentials.
If you are using an API key, it may be invalid or your Authorization header may be malformed.

## Response 403

Caller is not authorized to view the requested resource.

## Response 405

The maintenance window can't be deleted because it has already ended.

Too many requests have been made, the rate limit has been reached.
