# Workbench Overview

Workbench is a PD Labs feature that gives you a dedicated space to investigate an incident together with Paige, PagerDuty's SRE Agent.

Workbench is a [PD Labs](/ai-automation/pd-labs) feature that gives you a dedicated space to investigate an incident together with Paige, PagerDuty's SRE Agent. When you open Workbench from an incident, PagerDuty creates a Workspace — a shared investigation record with a chat with Paige, a timeline of what happened, a visual map of affected services, and a panel for the evidence you and Paige collect along the way. Paige pulls in alerts, deploys, logs, and metrics from your connected tools, explains its reasoning and confidence in plain language, and proposes remediation steps for you to review and approve. You can share a Workspace with teammates by link, so anyone who joins sees the full investigation with no extra setup.

> **Availability:** Workbench is currently available as a PD Labs preview. Features and availability may change as the product evolves.

> **Data Connector Required:** Workbench needs at least one observability data connector, such as GitHub or Datadog, configured for your account to pull evidence for the Deep Investigation. If none is available, Workbench tells you whether you can configure one yourself or need to request one from an admin. Topology requires access to the GitHub code tool.

## What Is a Workspace

Every investigation in Workbench happens inside a Workspace, opened from a specific incident. A Workspace holds two kinds of content:

- **Personal chat with Paige**: Your conversation with Paige is private to you. Each teammate who joins a Workspace gets their own chat thread with Paige.
- **The shared record**: The Timeline, the service map (Topology), and the Context panel are shared. Everyone in the Workspace sees the same evidence, findings, and history, regardless of whose chat surfaced them.

A Workspace can contain one or multiple incidents.

Anyone in your organization who opens a Workspace link automatically becomes a member with full access to that Workspace. There is no separate invite step.

## Create a Workspace

1. Click **New Workspace**.
2. In the dialog, enter a name for the Workspace.
3. Select at least one incident to seed the Workspace. You can filter incidents by team, status (such as triggered, acknowledged, or resolved), or whether the incident is assigned to you.
4. Click **Create Workspace**.

> **Note:** **Create Workspace** stays disabled until you select at least one incident.

## Workbench Key Areas

- **Workspace**: A session between you and Paige that can include one or more incidents.
- **Chat**: Where you talk directly with Paige. The chat window can also run commands. The Deep Investigation takes all chat interactions into consideration.
- **Timeline**: Where Deep Investigation results post as they come in, showing the progress of the investigation.
- **Topology**: An AI-generated topology, based on GitHub code analysis, that shows your environment's services (not PagerDuty services) and the blast radius for the incident.
- **Context**: Where information — messages from Paige and investigation findings — is posted and commented on. Every member of the Workspace can view it.
